Having stumbled upon the open source Sun Game Server at http://www.projectdarkstar.com/, I started to read up on its features and do minor experiments with it.
I realized this would be a great platform to build a load test tool upon, as many of the features in the platform are just what you need when doing distributed load injection and metrics gathering.
Of course I started coding it right away, and quickly found that I needed a name for it.
I kind of liked the concept of Hamsters running in there little wheels, and I came up with the name Hamster Powered.
Being kind of annoying to type, I came up with the short hand amsterpow, which is cool in several ways:
- It sounds great
- I doesn't give any hits in Google
- No amsterpow domain names are currently taken
Thats really incredible, a letter combination that gives no hits in Google and are not taken in any top level domain!
I ended up liking it so much I decided to use it for all of my projects.
